Bonjour!
Almost Famous generally talks about celeb fashion and lifestyle, but I’m reporting all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana where I’ve been spending the last week Spring Break-ing it for Mardi Gras. I feel that it's only appropriate the give you all the fashion updates and tips you need to know about America's most legendary party. People from far and wide have come to celebrate this tradition, including a swarm of JMU students who literally took over the city. Everything here in the Big Easy is ridiculous; from the events to the food and the fashion as well.
If you plan on venturing to Mardi Gras next year (or at least in the years to come – I highly recommend experiencing this holiday at least once in your life), I’ve decided to post my recommendations for the 3 most important, crucial items to pack and the one item you should definitely leave behind.
Crucial item #1: Cute Sneaks

Every girl loves a pair of heels, right? Well, NOT at Mardi Gras. Bourbon Street is littered with garbage and water, and it is impossible to walk around for hours on end in 4-inch stillettos.
Item to leave behind: Forget the heels, and instead pack a pair of cute, light sneakers that will get you through the long nights. I recommend Keds. Kind of old school, but I wore these babies every day (after I realized heels and flats were no good) and they only cost around $40 bucks.

Crucial item #2: Crossbody/Messenger bag
There is no option for a bag other than a crossbody. I recommend one just big enough to hold the necessary items (lip gloss, gum, credit card, ID, room key) but not too big so that it doesn’t interfere with all the beads you’ll be wearing. My pick? Free People's crossbody bags are the perfect options. I particularly like the Comanche Pocket Crossbody in Black for under $50. It's faux-leather, so you won't have to worry about the possible spillage it may endure during the festivities.
Crucial item #3: Sunglasses

The majority of the events take place during the day, and whether you're catching beads at a parade or dining on jambalaya al fresco by the Mississippi River, a good pair of sunglasses to shield your eyes is definitely a necessity. I like these Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses for around $145. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, go with Ron Jon surf shop’s Retro Style Wayfarers for only $11.99.

Now that the parades have ended and I’ve eaten all the gumbo and fried food I can handle, I’m ready to actually see the sites of this city. Hope your spring breaks are just as fabulous!
Cheers.
