in my closet

Anyone else out there have drawers and drawers crammed full of t-shirts that they never even wear? For some reason, I have close to a million shirts ... Although you'll never see me in a t-shirt unless I'm at the gym (which is never, by the way). What if I told you you could take any old t-shirt and rework it into a necklace and matching bracelet?

Well, here's the breakdown of how to do it! All you need is a plain t-shirt, scissors, and about 15 minutes of your time.

Step 1: Cut off bottom hem of shirt.

Step 2: Measure out 1-inch strips and cut across the shirt horizontally.

Step 3: Take each individual strip and stretch it out so that the fabric becomes rolled and lengthened.

Step 4: Line up the stretched-out loops, and then gather them together.

Step 5: Wrap one strip around the bands and tie it so that it gathers all of them together.

Step 6: Ready to wear! Wear with the tie in the back, front, or to the side ... or even try doubling up the necklace for a chunkier "scarf" feel.

Optional: Cut strips out of the sleeves and repeat the same steps for cute and easy (and in this case) best friend bracelets.

Honestly, the possibilities with this are endless. You can mix-and-match colors, or even add beads to the strands. You could also take some of the strips and braid them to add texture. I think there are definitely going to be some more t-shirt reconstruction posts in the future - I can't get enough of them! Have you guys had any success re-purposing tees? I'd love to hear your ideas!

  1. I take strips of tshirts as shown above and cut them so they are open strips and braid them into headbands!

  2. That's a great idea! If you double up this necklace I made, it actually makes a pretty cool headband/wrap ... I just don't have enough hair to rock it (yet)! Thanks for sharing :)
