colorblock like ann curry

So I'm pretty sure you've heard of "color-blocking," but in case you haven't it's the idea of "strategically placed, contrasting, yet complimentary, bold and bright colors" (as defined here). Basically I love this trend. Mismatching? On purpose? Oddly fantastic.

One person who does color-blocking right is Ann Curry of the Today show. I watch Today every morning before work (so adult and corporate-working-world of me, right?), and several times I've spotted her rocking the color-blocking trend - if not just wearing one solid, vibrant hue paired with a neutral. Ann is proof that color-blocking can be unexpected and fun while still looking put-together and classy. (And at 51 it definitely aids her youthful appearance!)

Here's a few examples of Ann keeping things bright with just one bold color choice (note how she pairs her bold hue with a neutral to keep it in check):

Add one or more other bright shades, and you've got color-blocking:

Moral of the color-blocking story? HAVE FUN WITH IT! Pick colors that you wouldn't normally wear together and take advantage of the fact that you get to "mismatch" on purpose! Or you can always start slow with trying out just one loud color at once ... nothing says summer like a pop of color!
How do you feel about color-blocking? Is it a Do or a Don't?

PS: be on the lookout for a post of me trying out colorblocking either today or tomorrow!
